ACA Open Enrollment: 5 Things to Prepare Before November 1

The Open Enrollment Period for 2027 Marketplace health coverage begins November 1, 2026.
But you don't have to wait until November to start getting ready.
In fact, having your information organized ahead of time can make the enrollment and plan comparison process much easier.
Here are five things you can start preparing now.
1. Your Estimated 2027 Income
If you are applying for coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace, prepare a reasonable estimate of your household income for the coverage year.
Don't simply copy last year's income without reviewing your current situation.
This can be especially important if you are self-employed, work on commission, or have income that changes throughout the year.
2. Changes in Your Household
Did you get married or divorced?
Did you have a baby or adopt a child?
Has the number of dependents in your household changed?
Household composition is an important part of your Marketplace application, so make sure your information is accurate and up to date.
3. Your Doctors and Specialists
Create a list of the doctors and healthcare providers you would like to keep.
When comparing plans, you can use that information to verify whether those providers participate in the plan's network.
Remember: provider networks can vary even between different plans offered by the same insurance company.
4. Your Prescription Medications
Make a current list of your prescription medications, including the medication name, dosage, and how frequently you take it.
Then, when reviewing your options, check how each plan covers those medications and what costs or restrictions may apply.
5. Your Actual Healthcare Needs
Finally, think about how you used your health insurance this year.
Did you see specialists regularly?
Did you need diagnostic testing?
Do you take medications every month?
Are you expecting a procedure or ongoing treatment next year?
Your experience with your current coverage can help you identify which plan features may be particularly important for the coming year.
Preparation Can Make a Difference
Health insurance involves much more than a monthly premium.
There are deductibles, copays, coinsurance, prescription drug coverage, provider networks, and maximum out-of-pocket costs to consider.
At IV Vierma, we can help you understand the enrollment process and review the individual health insurance options available for your situation.
Plan availability, eligibility, costs, financial assistance, and benefits vary by location and individual circumstances.
